Providing knowledge about health literacy and the importance of Blood Glucose Self-Monitoring (SMBG) in type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients is very necessary to prevent complications that can endanger the sufferer's health. Type 2 DM is a chronic disease that requires long-term treatment by regularly monitoring blood sugar levels. Lack of knowledge about how to properly perform SMBG can increase the risk of complications. Therefore, the aim of this community service is to provide education that can increase health literacy in type 2 DM patients, so that they can carry out SMBG more effectively. The method used in this service is education-based counseling through face-to-face sessions, distribution of educational materials, as well as practical demonstrations on the use of blood sugar level measuring devices. Counseling participants are type 2 DM patients who are not yet optimal in carrying out SMBG. This education focuses on understanding the importance of self-monitoring blood sugar, the right ways to do it, as well as lifestyle management that supports blood sugar control. The conclusion from the implementation of this counseling is that structured educational activities can increase patient knowledge regarding health literacy and skills in carrying out SMBG independently. With better knowledge, it is hoped that patients can manage their type 2 DM better, prevent complications, and improve their overall quality of life.
